CPS Marker Program in Launching–Meeting December 8th

CPS Historic Market Program–Location Charlestown Library :    Workshop – December 8, 2016 6:10-7:50 pm.

As you look around Charlestown you will see lots of homes with Markers from the Charlestown Preservation Society.  Over 340 of the handsome markers now grace neighborhood houses, and many more properties qualify. They denote the date of construction of hundreds of properties in our town. CPS expects to hold a Historic Marker Round in 2017.  Details such as cost of the bronze marker, application due dates, and other important details are still being worked out.  But first comes the research and documentation!  CPS only presents accurate information on the markers.  This means a lot of work for owners and a heavy volunteer commitment, especially when house documentation is murky or nonexistent. We are hosting this work shop prior to the 2017 round to assist owners interested in historic markers; this will focus on the library’s and online resources.  CPS likely will hold a hands on, weekday workshop at the Middlesex Registry of Deeds in December.  When an owner assembles sufficient information, CPS consults with the City Archives as necessary.  Please see the CPS website: for the how-to research guides and details about the program and criteria to be met.
