Last fall, CPS was asked to help a group of neighbors save a historic house in the Union Street neighborhood from demolition. We worked closely with Boston Landmarks Commission (BLC) and 35 residents to oppose demolition, implement a 90-day demolition delay, and create a petition for an Architectural Conservation District. In the fall, the BLC accepted the petition for study and the district received a “Pending Architectural Conservation District” designation! This designation enables the Inspectional Services Department to withhold demolition permits until the study has been complete. The study committee has been nominated and is pending approval from our new Mayor Michelle Wu. This latest award adds to Charlestown’s robust list of National and Local historic district designations.
